Business Focus: An Insight into Torque
Earlier this month, we hosted our much-anticipated bi-annual management Insight Day—an invaluable opportunity for managers to receive a detailed business update and connect with friends from across the Torque sites.
Insight Day holds a special place in the Torque calendar. Its core purpose is to create the strong personal relationships the Torque business is built on. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments, share knowledge, champion cross-team collaboration (and competition!), and have some fun in the team-building activities.
The event kicked off with comprehensive updates from some of our key departments. Speakers illuminated the remarkable growth of the Torque business and the fascinating and innovative projects our teams are working on in areas such as sustainability and IT infrastructure.
Next, our managers ventured into sunny Leeds city centre for a thrilling digital scavenger hunt. Divided into teams, they took on charming challenges, including photo quests, cartwheels, and even some (slightly off-key) karaoke. The energy and camaraderie were unmistakable, reflecting the collaborative and supportive culture that defines Torque.
After two entertaining hours of competitive fun, the teams reconvened to crown the winners and celebrate the spirit of teamwork with some well-earned food and drink. Oliver Winstanley, Head of Business Relations, commented, “It’s been great to take the time to get to know colleagues on a more personal level”.
To wrap up the day, we had the honour of hosting Olympic medal winner Steve Smith. His inspiring talk connected the worlds of elite sports and business. His message of discipline, perseverance, and excellence resonated deeply with our core value, ‘Going the Extra Mile.’
Capturing the essence of the day, Gary Purdy, Operations Manager at BD2, reflected, “Looking around the room…I know the business is in good hands; we’re a mix of very passionate people. Clearly, the business recognises and appreciates the efforts that all staff—not only managers—put in and that the business is growing and wants to take us on the journey."
As always, Insight Day left us energised, inspired, and more connected than ever—a reminder of what we achieve when we work together.
