Steve Hill

What is your role, and can you tell us a little about it?

I’m a Business Development Manager, and it’s my job to provide our customers with flexible freight solutions. I help to identify where there might be opportunities to improve imports and exports for new and existing customers – at the moment, my main focus is on sea freight quotations.

How long have you worked for Torque?

I’ve worked at Torque for 10 months, but I wish I’d started working here 10 years ago! It’s the most positive working environment I’ve encountered in the industry. Torque is focused on how to make things the very best for both our customers and our workers – we’re all people at the end of the day, and Torque makes it easy for every person in every part of every process to understand each other.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that Torque is like an ants’ nest, with so many busy moving parts working together to create results. Everything has its own place and it all works on a scale like nothing I’ve ever seen before in freight forwarding. Compared to previous jobs, it’s like coming from the Stone Age into the Roman Empire!

What’s your work superpower?

I have a lot of empathy and respect for other people and the jobs they’ve got to do. Everybody is working on their own thing, and I’m good at building the bridges between people and between departments, making sure it’s as easy as possible for everyone to do their own work well.

What one piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in a similar role?

You help yourself when you help everybody! By taking the time to understand what everyone around you is doing in their own role, whether customer or colleague, you can work out the best ways to deliver the best results for everyone.

Can you tell us the funniest thing to happen to you at work?

At a previous job, a colleague thought they’d hidden my bike as a prank. It wasn’t until they saw me riding off that afternoon that they realised they’d stolen somebody else’s bike – and that it was on a trunker heading down to London!

Danielle Dolan

What is your role, and can you tell us a little about it?

I work in Torque’s new Commercial Support team, assisting with the company’s commercial workflow from our brand-new Manchester office. We’re a small team so far, but I’m excited to see what the future holds!

How long have you worked for Torque?

I started at Torque just over a month ago! I’ve got a background in providing end-to-end export solutions in both air and sea freight, from providing a quote to completing and billing for a job, so I’m bringing a lot of useful knowledge and expertise to our new support team.

What do you love most about your job?

My favourite part of the job so far has been planning for the growth of our Manchester team. Starting a brand-new team in a brand-new area is a fantastic opportunity for expansion; and we’re always looking ahead at what’s to come.

What’s your work superpower?

I’m passionate about the jobs I take on from start to finish. Knowing that I can do a good job, and finding the best way to maximise profits, is what drives me to deliver for our customers.

How do you think Torque go the extra mile for their customers?

We have some brilliant systems in place, such as Torque Vision, that enable us to cater to our customers’ flexible requirements. Torque Vision really stood out to me, because it gives me and the customer complete visibility. I’ll always make sure to keep our customers updated on the progress of their import or export, but knowing that they can have oversight of a job at any time is an example of us taking that extra step to ensure a personalised experience.

What do you like to do outside of work?

In my spare time, when I’m not travelling or socialising, I love going to dance classes!
