Employee Focus: Anthony, Stock Manager
Anthony started at Torque as an Operations Supervisor in 2014. He quickly got promoted to a Senior Operations Supervisor and during this role it became apparent the customer required a Stock Manager for their rapidly growing business. He took his vast array of skills and knowledge of warehousing and distribution to help the customer meet their fulfilment expectations whilst efficiently managing the stock flow of circa 5 million unit, no easy task! Here Anthony tells us more about his interesting and varied role and why he avoids getting dressed in the dark!

What’s your role and can you tell us a little about it?
I am a Stock Manager at our Bradford 2 site. I oversee the full stock holding for Mountain Warehouse, which is made up of outdoor wear andequipment ranging from Karabiners to six-man tents. At peak we have circa 5 million units across 20,000 skus with a total of 10,000 pallet space locations and 29,000 racking locations. My role is to manage the space availability of impending deliveries, keeping the flow as we receive an average of 6 containers per day, ensuring we have an extremely accurate stock file by managing all movements of units from point of intake through to despatch which has resulted in achieving a web fulfilment of 99.9%
How long have you worked for Torque?
I have worked for Torque for 5 ½ years.
What do you love most about your job?
The variety – no two days are the same! The customer’s needs are continuously changing as their business grows, I am challenged daily to provide new and innovative ideas to maximise stock holding and full availability of every single unit we have in the warehouse.
How did you end up in your current role?
I worked for Barratts Trading Ltd for over 17 years in various roles within the distribution centre. After the company ceased trading in December 2013 I began working as an Operations Supervisor for Torque and in February 2014 gained a promotion to Senior Operations Supervisor. During this role it became apparent the customer required a Stock Manager for their rapidly growing business and with the skills and knowledge I had gained whilst working for Torque, along with my thirst for progressing in my career I was promoted to Stock Manager in February 2018.
What invaluable thing have you learnt in your role?
I would say my understanding of the JDA warehouse management has developed. Stock investigations can be challenging, utilising all the skills I have leant in this field has enabled me to produce accurate results in a timely manner.
What’s the one piece of advice you could give someone who wanted to do your job?
My advice is to build good working relationships with the customer and the Stock Control Team, listening and communicating promptly will help to achieve a rewarding job role.
Can you tell us the funniest or most interesting thing to happen to you at work?
I offered my assistance to work a week on the Night Shift to aid support whilst we introduced the sorter, on my last shift of the week it was pointed out to me by a college that I had odd trainers on….They were the same make and style but one was brown and the other dark blue….needless to say the Night Shift took its toll on me and out of my normal routine caused this amusing footwear malfunction!
How do you think Torque go the extra mile for their customers?

Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
I can solve the Rubik’s cube with a personal best of 58 seconds!
