Employee Focus: 2022’s Apprenticeship Team

This year, Torque employees working at supervisor level or above were invited to join the Leadership & Management Apprenticeship programme. The 13-month training course uses a mix of on-the-job learning, face-to-face workshops, and bite-sized virtual sessions to help colleagues get the best out of themselves and improve their leadership capabilities. Once the team have completed their training, they will receive a nationally recognised Level 3 Apprenticeship certificate.

We spoke to 4 Torque colleagues who have taken part in the apprenticeship scheme about how the course has helped them to develop their skills in successfully leading and managing a team.

Tomas Paulavicius

Why did you apply for the scheme?

I have been an Operations Supervisor at Torque for some time now and want to progress in my career. This scheme is teaching me ways to boost my confidence, and the skills and techniques I am learning will allow me to look at challenges from a different perspective.

What are you enjoying about the scheme?

I am particularly enjoying the group learning sessions, where we get to meet other colleagues taking part in the scheme in person as well as our teachers. Sharing our experiences has been not only useful, but very enjoyable! The training has been well structured and learning support is there when it is needed. It’s been useful to learn new tools that I’ve been able to put into practice in my day-to-day job.

How will the scheme help you with your role and career at Torque?

The scheme is helping me already, as I can take the things that I’ve learnt and implement them in my day-to-day work, which I believe is helping improve how I work with my team and making me a better supervisor.

Why did you apply for the scheme?

I applied for the scheme to improve my leadership skills and learn some new techniques along the way. It’s important to me to learn how best to support my team members in their roles, and help them to achieve success.

What are you enjoying about the scheme?

I’m very pleased with how much I’m learning so far! I’ve learned new methods of management and communication with my colleagues, and how to improve my time management. The scheme has also helped me to figure out my strengths and weaknesses, and I know what I need to work on – we learn not only from our successes, but also from our mistakes. Every mistake teaches us what not to do next time.

How will the scheme help you with your role and career at Torque?

When I’ve finished my training, I would like to use everything I’ve learned from the course to maximise my potential as a leader. I’d like to use my improved confidence to build meaningful relationships and communicate effectively.

Why did you apply for the scheme?

I wanted to challenge myself, and the scheme looked like a really good opportunity for personal development.

What are you enjoying about the scheme?

Meeting new colleagues from different Torque sites and sharing our experiences. I’m learning a lot of new things about leadership which I’ve been able to use in my daily life.

How will the scheme help you with your role and career at Torque?

I think the scheme will help me to understand my role from a different perspective, and to learn and adapt new leadership methods. By doing this, I will be well equipped to bring these skills into new roles I take on throughout my career.

Why did you apply for the scheme?

I’m an Operations Supervisor at Torque, and I saw this scheme as a great opportunity for me to develop additional skills, which I can use to progress to exciting new places in my career here.

What are you enjoying about the scheme?

I’m really enjoying learning more about the job I do. It’s been interesting to dive into the specifics of a management role and find out more ways to do the job effectively.

How will the scheme help you with your role and career at Torque?

It’s already helped me in in all kinds of ways! It helps with everyday tasks, and it helps me to formulate plans for future tasks, but most importantly, it’s helped me to be more professional and confident.
